CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OUR AWARD WINNERS!
Thank you to the judges who selected the final six. With the support of ACT III Community Acting Group, these successful six finalists of the competition saw their plays acted out – their characters spring to life and their words delivered to an attentive audience. ‘You could hear a pin drop’, was another comment.
All the volunteers carried out their various roles with pride and enthusiasm for the project; room set up, refreshments, ticket office booking, meet and greet with programmes, raffle tickets, stage sign and furniture management, actors, directors and filmmakers – we owe them a debt of gratitude as they made the evening flow without a hitch. We received a card in the post recently, ‘Thank you for a great occasion, you all did so well and hope you all feel proud of yourselves. The evening went ever so quickly, The Topics so varied and The Venue Perfect. I certainly include the caterers and raffle ticket sellers and greeters at the door! Bless you all. XX.’
Thank you so much for the many heartfelt comments sent to us – here are a few more extracts:
‘The entries were outstanding and created a wonderful evening of theatre.’
‘The actors really brought these stories to life on stage. Great stuff.’
‘What a wonderful evening from beginning to end.’
‘Taking part in the script-writing competition has been a fantastic experience.’
‘A new learning curve of which I thoroughly enjoyed and hope I get chance to do it again.’
‘Thank you for giving me the opportunity to add a new dimension to my writing.’
‘The script performance evening itself was well thought out and well-organised.’
‘I found the workshop very useful and the instructions helpful and professional.’
‘The winning script ‘Hello Harold’ by Charlotte Blackmore was a great example of how much tension can be created in such a short script…’
‘Mary Berry is a wonderful and pro-active organizer who ensured that all scripts were embraced with fairness and respect.’
‘I can only say that this project has confirmed and encouraged me to do more and also the confidence to enter more writing and script writing competitions. A well worth while creative project making new friends and good company along the way. I hope that we are able to keep this competition alive so that others can join in and express their talents.’
‘I think it has been a brilliant opportunity for writers of all levels…’
‘Being a judge on The Scriptshop Shield panel has been a totally wonderful experience.’
‘We worked together. We pulled together. We enjoyed acting the plays together. So much so that I have seen shy people blossom as a result…’
‘When you work in a group of kind people, that’s when life is really worth living.’
‘Becoming a member of Tyldesley Creative Writers, and subsequently entering the Scriptshop Shield playwriting competition, has resulted in a number of both expected benefits and unforeseen surprises.’
‘On Wednesday afternoon I go our Drama Group called ACT III. The group is always so friendly and always a lot of help and support.’
‘Concentrating on this, has started to fetch me out of my shell, and more confident about myself.’
‘So thank you to the people who gave us the money to help us act out the short stories…also gives the people who wrote the stories, a chance to do something they want to do with their lives and get praise for doing it. As for me, you have started to give me the tools to change my life.’
‘As a founder member of Scriptshop I was delighted to see the group live on in such a fitting memorial’

WHAT IS THE SCRIPTSHOP SHIELD?
Scriptshop was a Leigh based group of writers who developed their scriptwriting skills by sharing and discussing their writing. After decades of existence, the group unfortunately closed in 2017. Members of Scritpshop consisted of some members of the currently active Leigh and Atherton Writers and Tyldesley Creative Writers who were sad to see the closure of its doors. Both groups agreed that an annual scriptwriting competition would be an appropriate way of keeping the spirit of Scriptshop alive – hence the idea of The Scriptshop Shield competition. The shield has kindly been donated by Doris Critchley (the last Chairperson of Scriptshop) and writers will be invited to compete to win and hold this shield for one year – their name and year will be inscribed.
